Frequently Asked Questions

King George Little League (KGLL) is chartered under Little League International, the largest youth sports organization in the world. Within Little League, participating countries are divided into Regions; Virginia is in the Southeast Region of the US, headquartered in Warner Robins, Georgia. King George Little League resides in Virginia District 15. There are 10 other leagues in District 15: Caroline County, Essex County, King William County, Lancaster County, Mathews County, Middlesex County, Northumberland County, Richmond County, Spotsylvania County, and Westmoreland County.

When is Registration?

Registration for Spring baseball and softball begins in November. Evaluations (for minors and above) are scheduled for the end of February. Teams are formed/drafted in early March with practices beginning soon thereafter, depending on the division. The game schedule usually begins on Opening Day, which it typically scheduled the first part of April. The regular season runs through early June with the Tournament Season (All Stars) beginning after the regular season. KGLL also offers a Fall Ball program. Registration begins in the Summer and practices and games are scheduled starting in either late August or the first week of September. The game schedule typically runs through the end of October. For more information, please contact our Player Agent.

When are Games and Practices?

Most divisions will practice twice during the week and Saturdays. Weekday games and practices normally start at 5:30 or 6:00 pm with Saturday games and practices scheduled throughout the day, based on field availability. Tee Ball (including Blast Ball) practices run about an hour, Coach Pitch (Machine Pitch) practices for an hour and half and Minor divisions and above will normally practice for about 2 hours. Under extreme situations make up games may be scheduled on Sundays. If this occurs, they will not begin before 1 pm.

What is the age break-down for KGLL's different divisions?

The composition of the divisions depends on the number of children registered within each age group. Evaluations are held in the Spring to support a complete draft of players for the teams in the Minor divisions and above. The younger ball players are distributed to teams based on age and experience in an effort to gain parity in the divisions. In accordance with our By-Laws, parents may request for children to play up or down a division under specific circumstances at the time of registration. All baseball divisions are co-ed, while our softball divisions are for girls. Here are the KGLL divisions for the 2018 season:

2023 Divisions

  • Four Year Old Blast Ball baseball Division players shall be league age 4.
  • Tee Ball baseball and softball players shall be league age 5 and 6.
  • Coach Pitch Division players shall be league age 7 and 8.

How do I figure out my child's Little League Age?

Baseball Age is determined by the child’s age as of 31 August of the current year and Softball Age is determined by the child’s age as of 31 December of the previous year. Click here for the league age calculator. Can I request a teammate or coach?

You may request a teammate for the 4 YO, Tee Ball, and Coach Pitch divisions. Since the teams are determined by draft for the older divisions, teammate requests are very difficult to honor but may be considered. You may not request a specific manager or coach. However, in accordance with our By-Laws, you may request not to have a specific manager or coach. Special requests are treated confidentially by the Player Agent and MUST be made at the time of registration. We will make every effort to accommodate player requests; however, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be fulfilled.

What if I need financial assistance to cover the registration fees?

KGLL offers aid for those who need financial assistance. Requests are handled confidentially through the League President. For more information, please email the President.

How do I know where to find the field that our game or practice is on?
Since KGLL does not own any real property or fields, we rely on the generosity of the community for fields, specifically the county fields coordinated by the King George County Parks and Recreation Department, the school ball fields, and in some cases, Church fields and private property. Click here for a map of field locations.

Can I make a donation to the league?

Of course! King George Little League is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and we appreciate (and rely on) your financial support. We have a graduated sponsorship program. For more information, view our Sponsorship Opportunities page or please contact our Fundraising Coordinator
