Registration for Spring 2018 Open/League changes

The ECB Board has been busily preparing for the Spring season, and we have some exciting announcements we want to share. Registration is now open and we are pleased to announce that we were able to keep registration fees the same as last year with no increase!

Additionally, as many of you know, there are numerous leagues in youth baseball, and ensuring that ECB is affiliated with one that best fits the needs of our area youth is an ongoing agenda item and discussion point for the ECB Board. We have discussed the advantages and disadvantages of staying with our current league or joining a different league for some time, and at this time, with the continued growth of our league and the growth of Chatham County we feel that a larger more established and successful league will offer more opportunities to our community and players. To that end, the Board has voted to join Little League.

Some of the highlights of being affiliated with Little League include:
• Strong focus on Tee-Ball and younger age divisions to set strong foundation
• Little League University - Helps in aiding new and old coaches and leagues with procedures and policies
• Marketing power of Little League
• Little League partnership with ESPN
• District, State, Regional, National and International All-Star Tournaments (Super Regional & National All-Star Games are televised)

While joining Little League is new and very exciting it does have some changes that are impactful, most notably that Little League’s age cutoff is August 31. Updated league ages for 2018 season will be:
• 6U, Any player whose birthday falls between 8/31/2014 - 9/1/2011 will be eligible for our Tee-Ball League Division. (Note: 4yos are now eligible to play this year)
• 8U, Any player whose birthday falls between 8/31/2011 - 9/1/2009 will be eligible for our Minor 8U League Division.
• 10U, Any player whose birthday falls between 8/31/2009 - 9/1/2007 will be eligible for our Minor 10U League Division.
• 12U, Any player whose birthday falls between 8/31/2007 - 5/1/2005 will be eligible for our Major 12U League Division. (Little League for this year only will allow players who are turning 13 between 5/1 & 8/31 to be eligible for All-Star considerations.)

ECB has enjoyed being affiliated with the Tar Heel Leagues, a North Carolina league, over the past several years and would like to thank our district and state officials for providing fun, safe and competitive tournaments throughout the years.

We are excited about our new affiliation with Little League, and will be sending updates with important announcements about equipment, evaluations, opening day ceremonies, spring season tournament, and district tournaments in the coming weeks. For now, we hope you sign your kids up to play with ECB, and please help spread the word!
